The storyline of game 5 will always be remembered as the Kevin Durant Achilles game. The Warriors were down 3-1 heading into Game 5 and needed a drastic change. Insert Kevin Durant.
Durant has been held out since May due to a calf strain injury and had been rehabbing for this moment. The Warriors had no answer for Toronto in games 3 and 4, and it was clear the Warriors needed Durant back. Finally, Durant was able to practice and come tip-off he was inserted into the starting 5.
Durant made his presence felt quickly in game 5, knocking down his first two 3 point attempts and finishing the 1st quarter with 11 points and 3-3 from downtown. Durant gave the Warriors the spark and energy they had been lacking. The injury took place early in the 2nd quarter when Durant attempted to dribble past Ibaka and instant fell to the floor grabbing his Achilles.
Durant would not return to the game and was seen leaving the arena in crutches and a walking boot. After the game, GM Bob Myers confirmed Durant has an Achilles injury and would receive an MRI Tuesday to confirm the severity.
This is a huge blow both golden state and Durant who was entering free agency once again and has been heavily rumored to sign with potentially the Knicks, Clippers or Brooklyn. It is unclear if teams will be willing to offer Durant a max deal after suffering the Achilles injury.
