Marlins Trade Prized Catcher J.T Realmuto to Division Rival Philadelphia Phillies

Thursday afternoon was a busy one for the Miami Marlins. While the NBA trade deadline was madness, Miami was busy making a trade of their own.

Miami parted ways with the franchise best player and top asset, J.T Realmuto. Arguably the best catcher in all of baseball will now be playing for the rival Phillies. This trade was inevitable, after keeping J.T throughout the previous season, the gamble paid off and Jeter got a great return.

Miami had been in talks with San Diego, Dodgers, Nationals, Phillies and several other reported teams and Jeter was demanding top prospects across the board for his prized catcher. Finally, after many negotiations, ups, and downs, Miami dealt Realmuto. In return, Miami acquires Phillies No.1 pitching prospect (#27 MLB Top 100 Prospects) Sixto Sanchez, top catching prospect Jorge Alfaro, pitcher Will Stewart and international bonus money. Jeter was reluctant to let Realmuto go without getting Sanchez and Alfaro in return.

Sixto Sanchez has drawn comparisons to another great Dominican, Pedro Martinez and is only 20 years of age. Sanchez has 4 pitches which include a fastball that has topped out at 102 mph, slider, curveball, changeup.

Jorge Alfaro, 25, considered once as a highly prized prospect still has untapped potential. Alfaro is MLB ready and can take over catching duties from day 1, and is known around the league for his excellent exit velocity. Alfaro had the same average exit velocity as Manny Machado in 2018. Alfaro offers a cannon behind home plate with raw power.

Will Stewart, 21, a left-handed pitcher who was selected in the 20th round in the 2015 draft. Stewart went 8-1 last season in 20 starts and had the second best era in the South Atlantic League with 2.06. Stewart had two complete games while striking out 90, walking 21 over a span of 113 innings.
