Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Brice Butler, Adrian Peterson, Rashard Higgins, Laquan Treadwell, Taylor Gabriel, Cam Sims………no, this isn’t my fantasy football roster, but each of these players have one thing in common… David “D-Rob” Robinson. Robinson has been the man behind the minute details of professional athletes for years; if you asked some, he’s the sole reason they are “always open”.
“What I like about him (D-Rob) is that my son isn’t in the NFL, but he makes him feel like he is, or that he can be. He takes his time and invests himself in every athlete that comes through the door”
Robinson is a product of Dallas, Tx and was a standout HS athlete, breaking records at Desoto Highschool and eventually landing in Norman, Oklahoma playing for legendary coach Bob Stoops. While in Oklahoma, he participated in two National Championships, and three Big-12 Championships. He later finished his career at the University of South Dakota.
Robinson, not the biggest in stature, makes up for it in the knowledge of the human body, and the game. Whether training professional athletes, collegiate, high school, or beginners, D-Rob gives the same attention to detail. “What I like about him (D-Rob) is that my son isn’t in the NFL, but he makes him feel like he is, or that he can be. He takes his time and invests himself in every athlete that comes through the door.”, one parent told Kill That Noise at Robinson’s “Always Open Academy”. As athletes from all over gathered at A+D1 Sports Training in Carrollton, Texas, D-Rob personally greeted each parent and athlete. “I’m from Austin, Texas..” one parent began to tell Kill That noise, “I drove here because I saw ‘Rob on Twitter. Here was this little guy not afraid to demand greatness and respect out of these professional guys that make millions…and they take it. I need my son to learn something about that.”
Athletes worked ran routes, worked on quick-twitch movements, and observed the teachings of Robinson and fellow trainers, NFL/collegiate athletes. “Rob gets you right.”, former Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Demarcus Ayers stated. “Even off the field, we go in and watch film and break down…that’s a huge piece.” added a former athlete and now trainer. “I was with him when he first really got a lot going. He’s come so far; he’s helped me and now I work and train with him.”
Through warm-ups, stretches, drills, and the talks, D-Rob’s message is consistent…DETAIL, EFFORT, HARD WORK, but not just on the field. Robinson fosters inspiration and dreams of the youth today by allowing them to meet and be mentored by successful collegiate and professional athletes. Robinson introduced parents and athletes alike to academic resources that could help their child excel in the classroom as well. Its more than a game, and David Robinson uses the game to introduce young athletes to live in a perspective they could only dream of. Once you are pushed to new heights/limits, you will forever be #AlwaysOpen!
